Report of 'The 4th Central European Conference - Chemistry towards Biology'

The ‘The 4th Central European Conference - Chemistry Towards Biology’ was held in Dobogókő, Hungary, 8-11 September, 2008. The programme and details are available at the conference’s website: http://ctb4.chem.elte.hu/ctb4index.html.

The focus of the conference was: Structure and Interaction of Proteins with:

  • Peptides, Peptidomimetics & Proteins,
  • Metal ions,
  • DNA, RNA, PNA,
  • Carbohydrates & Glycomimetics,
  • Organic Ligands

Altogether 121 scientists attended the meeting. Besides participants from the central European countries: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, there were scientists from France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherland, Pakistan, Switzerland, Turkey and UK. More than the half of the participants came from Hungary (64).

Overall 46 oral presentations (8 plenary lectures) were held and 76 posters were presented in six poster sessions during the four days of the meeting.

The conference venue located at the top of the picturesque mountain area near Budapest. This peaceful environment in the middle of surrounding forests was an ideal place for the scientific talks. The social programs were held at the conference location, including the welcome reception, the unforgettable Bogracs party with Hungarian folklore performance and of course the Gala dinner. The weather was perfect for a walk in the nearby area on the top of the Pilis mountains.
